Messenger
Beta. This integration is available, but how accurately Cogno extracts tasks and context from these messages has not been validated yet. Expect rough edges, and tell us what you see.

At a glance

The Messenger integration is receive-only. “Receive-only” means Cogno never sends to Messenger — not that it captures only one side. Cogno ingests the whole conversation on a Facebook Page (both the contact’s messages and the Page’s own replies) and uses it as workspace context and tasks. Cogno never auto-replies or delivers notifications back to Messenger. It works in two parts.
  • Connection (OAuth): authorizes Cogno to work with your Facebook Page. You pick the Page through Facebook Login.
  • Receiving (Webhook): the path that delivers the Page conversation (both the contact’s messages and the Page’s replies) to Cogno. This is configured on the Meta app side.

Before you start

  • You are the owner of the Cogno workspace.
  • You can sign in with a Facebook account that manages the source Page.
  • The Meta app side is already set up (app created, Messenger settings, Facebook Login settings, Webhook settings).
    • This Meta setup is an admin task. If it is not done, ask your admin first.
  • For a shared team integration, use an operations account that will not break when an individual leaves or loses access.

Connect Messenger in Cogno

  1. Open the Cogno app.
  2. Open Integrations for the target workspace.
  3. Select Messenger.
  4. Click Connect Messenger.
  5. In the Facebook authorization screen, review and approve what Cogno may access.
  6. The Cogno screen switches to Page selection.
Once connected, Cogno stores the OAuth connection and lets you continue to Page selection.

Select a Facebook Page

  1. In the Facebook Page section, review the Pages managed by the connected account. If none appear, click Refresh.
  2. Click Select on the Page you want to receive from.
  3. On selection, Cogno subscribes that Page to webhooks automatically.
From then on, the Page conversation (both directions) is delivered to Cogno.

About sender names

Contact display names are resolved automatically from the Facebook profile — there is no manual mapping step. A Messenger contact is an external party, not a workspace member, so there is nothing to link them to (and no UI for it). The Page’s own replies are recorded under the Page’s name.

Common states

Notes

  • Messenger is receive-only. There is no automatic reply or notification delivery from Cogno.
  • Instagram direct messages use a different API and are out of scope for this integration.
  • To offer Page connection to arbitrary users, the Meta app must be published (App Review + Business Verification). During development, only accounts with an app role (admin/tester) can connect.
